The Lost Highpoint

[Summit team: Targo, Katrin, Toomas, Oliver]
There are two main trails that lead from Mount Washington road up to Mt. Frissell.
The first one starts from the crossing of Mass/Conn state line, it is shorter (about 1 mile one way) but significantly steeper. It crosses Round Mountain first, so the total climb is around 800ft. Note that this trail is not marked on the USGS map.
The other trailhead is about a mile further south on Mount Washington road and takes you to the NY/Conn state line, then North to the Mt. Frissell trail. This trail is bigger (old 4WD road) and longer (~1.5 miles) and the climb is only 500ft.
We took the first trail up and the other one down to keep the hike more interesting (click on the map below to see our route). Note that there is a very small trail starts from the tri-state point and follows the state line to the 4WD road, this saved us a little time.

Toomas (the bigger boy on the pics) insisted on walking on his own all the way up, so it took us about 1.5h to get to the highpoint.

Here are the instructions to the trailheads from I-90:
1. Take MA exit 2 towards US-20, keep left towards US-20 / RT-102
2. Turn left onto US-20 and then right to RT-102
3. Go 4.3 miles, keep straight onto US-7 South
4. Stay on US-7 South for next 7.9 miles.
5. Turn right onto SR-41, go 3.9 miles.
6. Turn left to stay on SR-41 and then immediately to the right onto Mt Washington Rd.
7. Go about 11.4 miles (road name changes to East Street at some point). You pass the Forest Headquaters (on your right), then the road becomes unpaved. Keep going until you see State line marker on your left. The first trail (over the Round Mountain and Mt Frissel) starts from the right.
8. Go about a mile past state line marker until you see a white gate and small parking area on your right. This is the other trailhead.

State line marker newar our starting point. If you see this one, you know you're in the right place.

This is Mount Washington Road. There is no sign that would say where the trail leads, you have to figure the location out yourself, it is about 2 miles after the forest headquarters and the end of pavement.

Toomas walked all the way up himself

I had never seen an orange spider before, so I took this picture.
